Citizenship
The Canadian passport is one of the most sought-after passports globally, mostly due to Canada’s low crime rates, low employment rates, high-quality schools, et cetera. The dream of most Canadian immigrants is to become a citizen. To be eligible for Canadian citizenship, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old and a Canadian permanent resident
- Have resided in Canada for three of the last five years before applying
- Filed income tax for each of the last three years
- Pass the citizenship test and meet the language requirements (for applicants 18–54 years old)
- Take the oath of citizenship
There are some exemptions to these requirements, and IRCC can waive some of them if the applicant cannot meet them due to a mental or physical disability.
