Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker Programs
The Home Child Care Provider Program and Home Support Worker Program are quite similar in terms of the requirements. The main difference is that while the Home Child Care Provider Program focuses on caring for children under 18, the Home Support Worker Program supports the disabled and elderly.
IRCC designed these programs for people with at least two years of caregiver work experience in Canada and people who intend to immigrate to Canada by working as caregivers. If you have at least two years of caregiver experience in Canada, you will be eligible to submit your application for permanent residence, provided you meet the other requirements. For those who do not have caregiver experience in Canada, IRCC will issue them an occupation-restricted open work permit. IRCC will also issue open work or study permits to the accompanying spouse and the dependent’s children. Their permanent resident application will then be pending until the applicant has completed 24 months of caregiver work in Canada over the course of 36 months. The requirements are set out below.
Requirements
- At least one year of post-secondary education
- A minimum score of CLB 5 in English or French
- Applicants with no or less than 24 months of Canadian work experience as a caregiver must demonstrate the intent as well as the ability to perform the work by submitting reference letters from past employers, qualification credentials, et cetera
- Application with 24 months of work experience in Canada must provide proof of this
- A job offer (non-seasonal) from a Canadian employer
